Sidonian Burial Cave - Built 2,300 years ago
After the destruction of the first temple at the beginning of the 6th century BC, The Edomites settled in Maresha as they did throughout the south of Judah. Because of this, the whole area was called "Idumea". Maresha was the central city that ruled the western part of Idumea, at the same time as Adoraim ruled the east part. After Alexander the Great's concord the land of Israel in 332 BCE, Sidonians who accepted the Greek culture arrived here.
We are at the entrance to the Sidonian burial caves - the most important and largest tomb system in the region. These caves are two of many caves carved by Phoenicians who settled in Maresha. In the caves, large niches were carved to place the dead...

The Conquest of Gamla by the Romans
Просмотров 15 тыс.Месяц назад
We are at the lower part of the Golan region in northern Israel, overlooking the ancient city of Gamla. One of the last actions of suppressing the revolt in the Galilee, and perhaps the most dramatic of them, took place in Gamla. Why did Vespasian put so much effort into conquering a city in a relatively remote place? There are two reasons which I explain them both in the video. According to Jo...

The Mughrabi Gate on the southern side of the Western Wall is the southernmost of the open Temple Mount gates. It was named after the adjacent Mughrabi Quarter. We are near the Western Wall, which is 488 meters long. Along the Western Wall there is the largest number of gates to the Temple Mount compared to all other walls of the Temple Mount. Some of the gates are from the Second Temple period...

In the eighth century BC, Jerusalem experienced a dramatic change that was mainly reflected in an accelerated growth of residents and settlement areas. During this period, the Kingdom of Judah took in many refugees from the area of Samaria, which was conquered by the Assyrians in 722 BC. At that time, Hezekiah was king of Judah, and he prepared his kingdom and its capital Jerusalem to deal with...

At that period, the synagogue and the town central quarter were built. At the beginning of the 4th ce...

We are visiting today the ancient city of Gamla. Gamla was the last stop before the Roman legions made their way to Jerusalem, to suppress the great revolt, conquer Jerusalem and destroy the Temple. We are at the Synagogue of Gamla, a unique building. It was probably built during the time of Alexander Yannai the Hasmonean, and destroyed with the conquest of the city by the Roman legions under t...

      Hi, there were quite few water cisterns in Gamla, both inside the wall and outside and they can be still seen today. There were cultivated areas on the hill across Gamla brook, so that the farmers left to work there at the beginning of the week and returned at the end. There will be a dedicated video on the income source of Gamla's residents uploaded later this year.

    Is this legitimately David's son's actual tomb where his body rested or n😢

    • @historicalsitesinisrael
      @historicalsitesinisrael 20 дней назад

      Hi, I address this question starting at the 9th minute of the video based on Professor Gabriel Barkay’s article on the subject: Since the building is dated to the first half of the first century - The special shape of the structure leads to identifying it as a burial place of a key figure from the first century. Also, the special location and the proximity to the Temple Mount makes it necessary to assume that those buried here had a noble and special status. After the discovery of Herod’s tomb in Herodion, the closest equivalent to Herod’s mausoleum is Absalom’s tombstone in Jerusalem, suitable for a royal burial. Marcus Julius Agrippa is Agrippa the 1st, king of Judah, born in 10/11 BC. Agrippa was the son of Aristobulus, son of Miriam the Hasmonean & Herod, and his wife Berenice. He ascended to the throne in the year 34 and in 41 he overtook the rule over all of Israel. He died 2 or 3 years later, at the age of 54. At the end of his days, Agrippa saw himself primarily as the king of Judah with Jerusalem as its capital. The priestly attribution of Agrippa as a grandson of the Hasmonean family on his grandmother’s side, gave him many advantages among the Jews. Jerusalem and the temple were important to him, and they occupied a central place in his being. I recommend you watch that part of the video yet the conclusion is that Agrippa was berried here.

    Was the Israel pool used to wash sacrificial stock prior to being led into the Temple? Or was it Bethesda's or both? Since Struthion was for consumption and/or ritual baths?

    • @historicalsitesinisrael
      @historicalsitesinisrael Месяц назад

      Hi, Even though all were active during the 2nd temple period, it is probably that the pool of Israel and Bethesda's pool didn't operate at the same time. All were probably used for consumption and for supporting services at the temple. Ritual bath were mostly located close to the temple entrances, on the south and west sides of the temple mount.

    • @historicalsitesinisrael
      @historicalsitesinisrael Месяц назад

      Thank you. During King David's reign, the residential area was south of the current Dung gate in the area named "City of David", hence there was probably no gate at that location at that time. Also, the 1st temple was built on Mount Moriah only during his son, King Salomon's reign. There is very limited information on the city wall and its gates at that time. Only during the beginning of the 2nd temple period (5th century BCE) there is much more information as listed in the book of Nehemiah. Hope this information helps

    Fantastic video I truly enjoyed that the history in Israel is far beyond any culture in the world. Finding the Garden of Eden would be good. What plays on my mind is if you added water would the seeds from the beginning grow 🤔 you may say that just silly but Israel found seeds from over 2000 years ago and brought them back to life. But Israel should be number one in the wonders of the world.

    If Suleiman rebuilt the gate, it's not the original gate and Jesus will not be returning through this gate..... Sorry, but stop with false doctrine.... He doesn't need a gate if he stands upon Mount Olive 🫒 and splits it in half, that's more than enough proof
